Human Genome Sciences (HGS) is a biopharmaceutical company with approximately 800 employees and world-class R&D and manufacturing facilities based in Rockville, MD. We have three promising products in late-stage development – one, raxibacumab, already commercialized with sales to the U.S, Government and two moving toward commercialization. BENLYSTA™ (formerly LymphoStat-B®) has successfully met its primary endpoint in the first of two Phase 3 trials in systemic lupus, and we expect to have results of the second BENLYSTA Phase 3 trial in November 2009. ZALBIN™ (formerly Albuferon®) has completed Phase 3 development in chronic hepatitis C, and we expect the submission of global marketing applications in fall 2009. We are developing both of these products in collaboration with world leaders in the pharmaceutical industry. Further, in July 2009, we secured a new purchase order for 45,000 doses of raxibacumab, a drug to combat inhalational anthrax, to be delivered to the U.S. Strategic National Stockpile over a three-year period.

Join a dynamic biopharmaceutical company as a Marketing Analytics manager focusing on immunology. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the pre-launch market planning for a very exciting product that is completing Phase 3 development. In this role, you will plan and execute primary and secondary marketing research activities necessary to guide development and implementation of immunology product and portfolio strategies, ultimately supporting the success of commercial launch of assigned products.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Identify, monitor, and prepare periodic competitive and market intelligence briefing documents on current scientific, clinical, market, customer, reimbursement, and competitive trends. • Recommend, design, and conduct primary and secondary marketing research activities. • Identify and evaluate analytical tools to enhance current HGS sales forecasting, product and partner assessments, and product valuation activities. Collaborate with product team to prepare and periodically update long-range forecasts for designated immunology products. • Conduct commercial assessments of new indications, new HGS clinical candidates, and potential business development opportunities. • Provide input into global product strategies in all components of the marketing mix including: target profile specifications, brand name concepts, formulation and administration, packaging, product positioning, reimbursement, field force requirements, pricing, and distribution. • Coordinate marketing research projects conducted with outside suppliers to ensure that they achieve HGS objectives and are completed on time and on budget. Promptly report and present findings, implications, and recommendations to management and project teams to ensure appropriate integration into company decision-making. • Represent commercial perspective on product development teams. Provide commercial direction to teams in evaluating potential opportunities and recommending strategy to management. Aid management in defining target commercial profiles and contributing to the preparation of product development strategies and plans. • Develop competency in the application of secondary data sources to HGS business. Utilize secondary sources to analyze competitive environment including products and companies by preparing, updating, and maintaining deliverable documents on relevant products, markets, and competitors. Continuously evaluate the cost-effectiveness and utility of data sources for business analysis and competitive tracking. • Update and maintain competitive intelligence databases on products, clinical trials, and publications.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree, with emphasis in the health sciences, business, or marketing background; MBA or MS degree highly desirable. • Minimum of 3 years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience including product launch experience and at least 1 year in marketing research or business analysis function including familiarity with general and oncology specific data products offered by IMS Health, Verispan, DataMonitor, Decision Resources, Tandem, etc. Immunology experience highly desirable. • Familiarity with discovery and development process for pharmaceutical and biotechnology products and the roles of the various functional areas. • Excellent communication and presentation skills, strong business acumen, analytical orientation, attention to detail and ability to influence others. • Must be effective interfacing with all levels of management in scientific and commercial disciplines. • Ability to operate effectively while managing multiple priorities and ambitious deadlines in a highly dynamic, team focused environment within HGS • Strong computer literacy, particularly with database development and management.
