Area Overview
The Summer Analyst Program provides bright and outstanding undergraduate students with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience through advanced project oriented work assignments and professional development activities, which are designed to provide an extensive overview of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.  Summer Analysts will be given the opportunity to enhance essential business skills through formal presentations, critical analysis, writing opportunities, and computer based projects.

Analysts are assigned to one particular department for the summer, but have frequent opportunities to complete projects with other analysts and employees from various departments.  Opportunities are typically available in Bank Supervision and Regulation, Domestic and International Research, Information Technology Services, Markets, and Financial Services.  Examples of past analyst assignments include participating in risk examinations, developing reports and databases, and conducting economic research with senior level economists.

Job Responsibilities
In addition to day-to-day responsibilities, analysts attend weekly seminars hosted by senior management, including the President and First Vice President.  The seminars provide an extensive overview of the Bank's responsibilities and operations, and offer a unique opportunity to learn about full-time career opportunities upon graduation.

Job Requirements
It is recommended that applicants complete their junior year of college by the beginning of the internship - late May/early June.  The program is extremely competitive and size is limited.  Applicants must have a demonstrated interest in banking, business, economics, public policy, or finance with a strong academic record.  Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are essential along with demonstrated PC skills.  Applicants must be available for in-bank interviews in early spring (usually March/April).  Housing will not be provided.

Candidates must also be authorized to work in the U.S. on a multi-year basis for other than practical training purposes.
In some cases, positions require access to confidential supervisory information, which is limited to "Protected Individuals" as defined in the U.S. federal immigration law.  Protected Individuals include, but are not limited to, U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, U.S. permanent residents who are not yet eligible to apply for naturalization, and U.S. permanent residents who have applied for naturalization within six months of being eligible to do so.
