Introduction

We are seeking a highly motivated engineer to join ARM's systems R&D team to work on enhancing and maintaining our system simulation infrastructure. The systems team is part of the corporate R&D groups and currently works on research projects related to high-efficiency microprocessors & systems architectures, including interconnect and memory systems. Our current research areas are focused around future smartphone, server and HPC platforms.

Role

ARM has invested considerable effort in creating an ARM-based system-simulation environment, built on the gem5 framework. The simulation environment is seeing widespread adoption across ARM, the ARM partnership, academia and wider industry. We are looking for a motivated and skilled person to drive, maintain and enhance our gem5 simulator work. As well as driving the gem5 activities at ARM, this position  involves active collaboration with the gem5 community, outside academic and industrial partners.

Candidates must have outstanding C++ and Python skills, as well as previous experience with large software projects. Knowledge about architecture and micro-architecture is a plus. An ideal candidate will be self-motivating and have experience interacting with open-sources projects.



Key Accountabilities:

The engineer will work with the R&D group to implement new features in gem5 as needed for carry out the R&D groups research mission as well as manage testing and integration of internal and external changes.

Education & Qualifications:

B.S. In Computer Science or Engineering, prefer M.S. Relevant experience is a plus

Essential Skills:

- Outstanding C++ knowledge
- Excellent Python knowledge
- Excellent debugging  & problem solving skills
- Excellent software engineering skills including knowledge about data structure and algorithms
- Some simulation experience
- Enthusiasm and drive
- Ability to express ideas and communicate effectively
- Ability to schedule own workload and plan tasks
- Good inter-personal skills
- Willingness to be flexible and accept new challenges

Desirable Skills:

- Knowledge of architecture and micro-architecture concepts such as pipelines, caching, coherence, and interconnects
- Experience with computer architecture simulators
- ARM Architecture knowledge
- ARM Assembler
- Shell programming
- Knowledge of Mercurial and Git
- Experience interacting with open source projects.
