Background

ARM’s Application Engineering Group is responsible for providing high quality technical support to customers using ARM’s products. In order to do this, we have a number of Applications Engineering teams based at various locations around the world.

We are now looking for someone to join a small team of Applications Engineers based in our Shanghai office. This role will encompass the provision of high quality technical support as part of a co-ordinated worldwide team.

Applications Engineering role

You will be required to gain a good knowledge of ARM’s processor cores, system IPs and other products through close working with the worldwide application engineering teams and ARM's Processor Division (PD). Then to use this knowledge to provide ARM's customers with the assistance they require to understand our CPU and System IP behaviour, on implementation and integration into their System-on-chip.

The transfer of your knowledge will take a number of forms. Firstly, you will need to be able to provide comprehensive responses to customer enquiries. Such enquiries may be received by email, telephone or face to face meetings.

Secondly you will be required to provide in-depth technical training to ARM's customers. You will therefore be expected to be able to travel every six to eight weeks. You will also be expected to have excellent interpersonal skills and be a good presenter.

Thirdly you will be responsible for the generation and review of new product documentation, such as application notes, frequently asked question lists and user guides.  This may include translation for local language support.

Last but not least, you must be reactive to the demands of both customers and sales and feedback requirements to ARM’s Engineering and Marketing groups.



Qualifications

Good university degree, in Computer Science or Electronics Engineering ideally, although other science graduates would be considered if they have relevant experience.

Experience


  • Minimum of 2 years industrial experience
  • Strong understanding of microprocessors
  • Experience or knowledge of FPGA or ASIC design, simulation and/or verification techniques, including RTL coding and simulation, in Verilog or VHDL
  • Understanding of FPGA or ASIC implementation flows (synthesis, scan insertion, layout)
  • A good understanding of the interaction between software and hardware
  • Demonstrable experience of problem solving and debug skills
  • Experience of interacting with colleagues
    outside of China

Desirable

  • Professional experience of customer and sales interaction
  • Knowledge of ARM architecture
  • Knowledge of ARM AMBA protocols
  • C/C++, assembler coding or other programming skills.
  • Experience in integrating SoC peripherals

Personal Requirements

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with both colleagues and customers, including good written and spoken English
  • Must be proactive in obtaining engineering or management input, in order to complete project and internal tasks in a timely and accurate manner
  • Must have the desire and ability to solve problems quickly
  • Must be enthusiastic and well driven
  • Must be able to schedule own workload and plan tasks – based on both internal and customer requirements.
  • Must have good inter-personal skills, and be able to work well within a team; especially when under pressure
  • Must be willing to be flexible and accept new challenges
  • Must be able to travel on a regular basis, both to give customer training and also for internal business reasons.


ARM accredited engineer (AAE) is a plus.
