    The Media Processing Division (MPD) in ARM has the mission to be at the forefront of advanced multimedia IP products for the consumer, wireless and automotive infotainment markets. The Mali range of GPUs (Graphics Processors) delivers an advanced architecture for hardware acceleration of graphics, specifically tuned for low energy consumption and high performance. Combined with graphics software products, MPD provides a unified and scalable graphics solution that will continue to address our customer needs into the future.

    Job Purpose
    Hardware engineers within MPD have responsibilities that cover all areas of the design and verification process: working closely with customers, architectural design, implementation, writing specifications, design and simulation, verification of functionality, generating deliverables and maintenance of designs.

    MPD promotes a graduate rotation scheme to enable graduates to gain wider understanding of different aspects of development, and to find each graduate the role that fits him/her best. This means that the assignment during the first year normally changes every 2-4 months, depending on the status of the ongoing projects. Currently there are openings in the following teams:

  • FPGA
  • Design
  • Verification
  • Physical Design


  • Education & Qualifications

    Good university degree, in electronic engineering or computer science ideally, although other science graduates will be considered if they have relevant experience.

    Essential Skills & Experience

    • Understanding of digital design techniques.
    • Understanding of microprocessor fundamentals.
    • Programming language, such as 'C', C# or Java.
    • Understanding of Hardware engineering development practices.
    • Familiarity with high-level simulation language, such as VHDL or Verilog.
    • Use of UNIX and shell programming.



    Desirable Skills & Experience
    • Some microprocessor, ASIC systems or HDL and Synthesis design experience.
    • Assembly language programming, ideally in ARM assembler.
    • Script language such as Python or Perl.
    • Knowledge of the principles of 3D graphics.



    Interpersonal Skills
    • No working experience required. Graduate position.
    • Enthusiasm and drive.
    • Motivation to work both unsupervised and as part of a project team.
    • Ability to express ideas and communicate effectively.
    • Able to work to tight deadlines.
    • Good English communication skills, oral and written.
    • Willingness to be flexible and accept new challenges.
    • Willingness to travel occasionally to ARM location in Cambridge and worldwide
