The Media Processing Division (MPD) within ARM is at the forefront of advanced multimedia IP products. The Mali range of Graphics Processors delivers highly advanced acceleration of Graphics and GPU Compute, tuned for low energy consumption and high performance.   
With considerable success to date, we are expanding our existing teams, and are seeking a talented, highly motivated Architect to specifically focus on energy efficiency across the Division.

Job Purpose

The role will be based close to an ARM Development team in Cambridge, Lund, San Jose, Shanghai or Trondheim, and will work alongside MPD Engineering and Advanced Product Development teams, as well as other ARM divisions. The role will also involve interfacing closely to ARM Partners.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities

Successful candidates will:

  • Bring the best of industry and academic ideas into ARM, and continually push and hold the Engineering and Advanced Product Development teams accountable for improved energy efficiency.
  • Maintain a set of recommended Power Management techniques for ARM GPUs, based on real experience of what does and does not work, supported by ARM supplied software and aligned with existing techniques used by ARM Partners.
  • Work across ARM with the sister Processor, Systems, Physical IP and Software teams to leverage all aspects of ARM’s IP in the goal of total system power reduction.
  • Co-ordinate, audit, and externally represent the myriad of programs within MPD which are focused on improving energy efficiency. These span Application Programs, Operating Systems, Development Tools, Silicon process, Physical implementation, SoC Design and complete System Design.
  • Create compelling presentations and present externally.

Education & Qualifications

Good university degree, ideally in electronic engineering or computer science, although other graduates would be considered if they have relevant experience.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Hands on, personal, experience from within a consumer mobile power environment.
  • In depth understanding of potential power reduction techniques from Applications through OSes to silicon process as applied to modern mobile SoCs.
  • A desire to continually reduce power in all aspects and to continue to learn and push techniques forward.
  • Can lead and motivate technical teams across organisations and geographies.
  • Excellent communication skills at technical and senior management levels
  • Able to author complex technical specifications.
  • Pro-active and self motivated
  • Willingness to be flexible and accept new challenges
