Introduction

The effective management, protection and defence of our intellectual property provide wide-ranging and challenging work for our patents and trademarks team.  

A vacancy has now arisen for a Patent Attorney with a specialization in Patent Prosecution in the field of semiconductor device design and manufacture, reporting to the Chief IP Counsel, to support ARM’s Physical IP Division.

Job Description

Working closely with ARM’s business units, the candidate will be required to handle a high volume of varied work.  The successful candidate will also demonstrate a common sense, practical approach and a willingness to work both in a team and on their own initiative. Considerable international travel may be required.



Person Specification

• Thorough understanding of the highly complex legal and technical issues surrounding patent prosecution, and the wider picture of ARM ecosystem.  Good awareness of ARM's business strategy, products and services

• Ability to express ideas and communicate effectively, particularly in writing
• Strong analytical skills
• Enthusiasm and drive
• Ability to integrate quickly into the existing team
• Ability to schedule own workload and plan tasks
• Willingness to be flexible and accept new challenges


Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years in law firm and/or in-house corporate experience
Minimum of 5 years  experience preparing and prosecuting U.S. and non-U.S. patent applications in the electrical or software areas, preferably in the field of semiconductor manufacturing processes.
Experience managing patent strategy
B.S. electrical engineering or computer science or substantial work experience with standard cells, memory, and I/O products.  
J.D. from an accredited university and admission to a state bar.
USPTO patent bar admission.

Experience

The candidate should have considerable experience in the field of patent prosecution in the field of digital circuit design and transistor level device physics.  Significant practical and commercial experience in semiconductor manufacturing is also preferred.
