Introduction
The Media Processing Division (MPD) within ARM has the mission to be at the forefront of advanced multimedia IP products. The Mali range of Graphics Processors and Video Engines deliver an advanced architecture for hardware acceleration of graphics and video, tuned for low energy consumption and high performance.   With considerable success to date and continuing strong customer interest we are expanding our existing engineering team in Cambridge, UK and are therefore seeking talented, highly motivated Principle Hardware Design Engineers.  

Job Role
This is a demanding hands-on technical role, employing the latest design and verification techniques to develop best-in-class configurable graphics processor hardware IP that is optimized for low power and high performance.   You will work as part of a world class engineering team leading highly challenging GPU design and verification activities. As a Principal Engineer, you will have responsibilities that cover all areas of the design and verification process, from initial concept through to customer deployment.  You will be expected to lead the definition and implementation of hardware designs, technically support junior engineers, create and review design and verification documentation and technically own producing high quality, robust solutions.    Successful candidates will display interest in 2D/ 3D graphics technology and/ or GPU computing, along with a high degree of technical creativity. Furthermore, candidates will demonstrate specialist skills in low power micro architecture definition and RTL implementation, including hands-on experience using state of the art tools and techniques in numerous complex IP development projects.



Education & Qualifications
Good university degree, ideally in electronic engineering or computer science, although other science graduates will be considered if they have relevant experience.  

Essential Skills & Experience  

  • Repeated project experience in technically owning the design and implementation of complex units, or sub-systems, from specification to design sign-off.
  • Enthusiasm, drive and diligence.
  • A high level of pro-activity, initiative and problem solving.
  • GPU or CPU hardware design and implementation experience.
  • Willingness to tackle varied and complex technical challenges.
  • Experience of architecting and implementing verification solutions for complex problems at block level, unit level and system level.
  • Experience of VHDL/ Verilog and modelling at an architecture/ micro-architecture level.
  • Excellent communication and written skills in English.
  • Willingness to be learn, be flexible and accept new challenges.
  • Use of UNIX development environments.
  • Knowledge of industry standard simulation environments.

    Desirable Skills & Experience
  • Design techniques for low power.
  • High performance design techniques.
  • Knowledge of the ARM architecture and AMBA bus system.
  • Knowledge of 2D and 3D graphics fundamentals and software APIs.
  • Experience of planning and scheduling development tasks for self and/or others.
  • Experience working and communicating with remote design centres.
  • High-level programming experience such as C/C++.
  • PERL/ Python/  TCL scripting experience
  • OpenGL-ES/ OpenVG development experience
