System Design Division Microcontroller Tools

The System Design Division of ARM develops and markets software development tools for ARM® processors and ARM CoreSight™ debug technology.

The team based in Grasbrunn (east of Munich) is focussing on software development for ARM Cortex-M based Microcontrollers offering an IDE, compilation tools, hardware debug units, evaluation boards and middleware software stacks (www.keil.com/product).

We offer a 6 – 12 month Industrial Placement best suited to an undergraduate or postgraduate student with existing well-developed practical software skills and a strong interest in Microcontroller embedded development. You will work on a number of product relevant tasks and projects with a senior ARM engineer acting as mentor and supervisor.  You can expect to gain experience in many areas of our products, especially learning about adding development support for the latest devices using the PACK concept recently being introduced in MDK5.



Education & Qualifications

At the point of starting your placement (Autumn 2013), you will have completed at least two years of a degree with a significant programming and software engineering element, such as Computer Science, Software Engineering or other relevant subject.

Essential skills and experience:

•  A demonstrated ability to write software in C/C++ or similar.
•  An awareness of commonly used algorithms and data structures.
•  Effective verbal and written communication skills.
•  Proactive and self-motivated, able to work individually and as part of a team.
•  An enthusiasm for developing new skills and solving problems.

Desirable skills and experience:

•  Some understanding of (ARM based) Microcontrollers.
•  Experience of programming in an embedded software environment.
•  Experience with (ARM based) development or evaluation boards.
