Introduction:

The New Business Ventures group develops opportunities for extending ARM’s products and services into new areas.  This group is seeking a Senior Security Architect to design security strategies spanning new types of products and services.  This senior-level position requires deep expertise across a broad spectrum of technologies relevant to securing components, systems, chip interconnects, platforms, networks, applications, content, storage, mobile devices, and cloud services.  The successful applicant will analyze security requirements for new applications, socialize with other ARM teams to develop practical security strategies, create architectural design patterns to guide implementation, and build prototypes to validate recommendations

Job Purpose:

Design, prototype, and socialize security frameworks that extend ARM’s vision for end-to-end security, trust, and privacy into new areas of business.   

Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
Lead the analysis and architectural design of end-to-end security frameworks.
Collaborate with ARM R&D teams on analysis of future security-related technologies.
Collaborate with ARM engineering on product specification and design.
Align other ARM groups with architectural recommendations.  Prepare white papers, slide decks, and other collateral materials as required.

Build things!  Work with other engineers to prototype practical end-to-end solutions.
Lead engagements with partners (silicon, sensor, OEM, and cloud) to evangelize ARM’s security architecture and to solicit feedback.
Analyze and drive industry standards groups as required.



Education & Qualifications

PhD, MS, or BS degree in Computer Science or related field is required.

Essential Skills & Experience

Security architecture – Minimum of 5 years architecting and designing end-to-end security systems for Internet-attached solutions.  A broad range of platform experience is desirable:  Embedded, mobile, notebook, desktop, server, wireless, network.  
Security technologies and standards – Deep technical knowledge of all core technologies and standards relevant to securing state-of-the-art mobile Internet solutions is absolutely required.

Security applications – Must be capable of analysing and specifying security solutions for a wide range of end-to-end solutions.  We’re looking for evidence of practical industry experience with two or more of the following industry segments:  entertainment, enterprise, financial, payment, and M2M domains.
Software architecture – Minimum of 5 years designing software frameworks, preferably for security applications.  We’re looking for a proven track record defining software platforms that support the development of higher-level applications.

Networking – Familiarity with commonly used network protocols and wireless standards is essential.

Hardware – Applicant must be up to speed on modern computer system elements including processors, system IP, memory, I/O, and networking.  

Hands-on – Must be capable of prototyping security solutions in the lab – HW and SW.
Credibility – Clearly, no applicant can be a world-class expert in all of these skill areas listed above.  However, the ability to work effectively with the best and brightest talent in the industry is required.  The successful applicant will be conversant in all areas and expert in some.

Strategy – Experience as part of a corporate strategy of technology innovation team is required.

Travel – Some domestic and international travel will be required.

Desirable Skills & Experience

Consumer electronics – Direct experience building products for the consumer electronics and/or mobile electronics segments is desirable.

Silicon – Expertise in microprocessor architecture, SOC design, and semiconductor process technologies is desirable.

ARM – Knowledge of ARM cores, system IP, tools, platforms, applications software, and systems is also desirable.

Leadership – This position requires the ability to bring order to early-stage opportunities with conflicting, misaligned, and ambiguous goals.

Teamwork – Applicant must demonstrate a solid track record delivering results by working effectively across multiple teams.  

Written communication – Applicant must show evidence of ability to write professional technical papers and presentations.

Interpersonal communication – Applicant must be personable and able to communicate at a detailed level with very senior engineers and also at a more abstract level with top executives.
