Placements at ARM

Processor Division

Over ARM’s history, the Processor Division team in Cambridge has produced some of the company’s most successful products, with many billions of processors designed by this group in use around the world today. This team has been responsible for developing processors across the full range of ARM’s processor portfolio, from high-end A-class parts such as the Cortex-A7, one of the first generation of processors implementing ARM’s big.LITTLE technology that will power the next generation of smartphones, through to microcontrollers in the M-class series such as the M0+, which will enable countless connected devices in the ‘Internet of Things’.

Job Description

As part of the ARM Summer Placement scheme in Cambridge, you will be working with the marketing group on next generation products and programs, with the help and guidance of experienced business leaders within the organization. Building on your existing hardware and software knowledge you will gain valuable new skills and experience, and make a real contribution to the team.
This placement is ideal for the engineer who is interested in fast-tracking their career into the world of business, driving product definition and understanding the mechanics of the exciting & competitive commercial world.



Essential Skills and Experience

• A good understanding of digital electronics
• Strong communication skills: listening, understanding and persuading
• Excellent attention to detail
• Understanding of computer architecture and micro-architecture concepts
• Outstanding inter-personal and teamwork skills
• The ability to effectively work alone as well as in a team
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Knowledge of the ARM architecture
• Marketing & business skills – understanding of business lifecycles, working with partners and ecosystem, delivering to schedules
• Strong technical writing skills – communicating challenging ideas with concise and consumable messaging
• Familiarity with high-level simulation languages, such as VHDL or Verilog
• Programming languages, such as 'C', C++
