Introduction
ARM Artisan® Physical IP technology lies at the heart of advanced digital products, from wireless, networking and consumer entertainment solutions to imaging, automotive, security and storage devices.  ARM Artisan® Physical IP has 5 primary product offerings: Standard Cells, Memories, I/O’s, Processor Optimisation Package (POP) and DDR PHY’s. We create IP that is licensed to all the leading foundries (TSMC, IBM, UMC, Samsung, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, SMIC et al) and distributed to end-users via the Free Library Program.  In addition to this, we also create IP that is licensed directly to end-users. ARM Artisan® Physical IP is available at various bulk-CMOS and Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) processes from 250nm to 20nm.

We are looking for qualified candidates for the Director of Engineering role for the Physical IP Division, Bangalore, to lead and manage the Engineering organization. With around 200 members, Bangalore is the biggest design centre of ARM Physical IP Division and we have a significant presence of engineering teams developing all products mentioned above in addition to Project Management and Design Automation teams. The successful candidate will also act as the Design Centre Manager and will be responsible for all product development, engineering resources and manage the engineering organization with overall efficiency, cost effectiveness, excellent customer satisfaction and employee engagement.

Reporting to   : VP Engineering, PIPD, San Jose
Accountable for : IP Development for the Physical IP Division by leading a ~200 member engineering organization


Key Responsibilities include


  • Development of products to ensure ARM’s continuing leadership with Physical IP through:
    ­   - Planning, scheduling and executing engineering  projects and delivering as per customer commitments
    ­   -  Identifying risks/issues and proactively addressing these to ensure commitments are met as per plan; keeping management informed  
      appropriately
    ­   - Co-ordinating with all product groups and Steering committees to ensure the best methodologies are developed, with a big push on efficiency and quality
      - Encouraging continuous improvement and innovation and ensuring that knowledge is shared across the division; questioning status-quo and being a change maker
    ­   - Working closely and guiding the local Project Management and Design Automation teams to ensure smooth functioning of the organization.
    ­   - Aligning with Divisional Operations group providing support for overall planning and coordination of all projects
  • Play an active role as member of the India Management Team contributing to the success of the centre
  • Work closely with the India Management team so that local initiatives are carried forward in the Physical IP Division at Bangalore
  • Own day-to-day management of the Design Centre,  provide leadership, motivate group members, harness and develop performance of teams
  • Work closely with various functions to plan out roadmaps for development infrastructure, maintain visibility of product activities and methodology issues
  • Engage with all design centres and seek/provide support to ensure the success of the division; actively participate in engineering staff meeting chaired by VP Engineering; update concerns and progress periodically
  • Hire highly valued & key talent, retain them and  maintain a high level of engagement amongst employees
  • Manage the outsourced work both on-site and remotely, be a nodal point in driving all the activities
  • Ensure the team is engaged with customers appropriately and the right level of communication happens; engage directly as and when required
  • Collaborate with Bangalore PD Engineering management, exchange best practices and ensure there is the right level of consistency in processes, policies and decisions
  • Align the team with the divisional goals and company’s vision and mission; ensure all  direct reports are performing and developing to their maximum potential



Essential Skills

  • 10+ years of relevant high-level technical management experience
  • More than 15+ years of total experience as VLSI professional putting together individual technical role and managerial responsibilities
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering products that meet target and customer commitment requirements
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various groups, including ones that are outside direct sphere of influence such as Design Automation, Operations
  • Ability to understand Physical IP business models and product usage
  • Knowledge of SOC implementation methodologies, chip tape out
