Position Description

Summary:

The Program Director for Business (Online – Undergraduate Programs) is a member of the faculty (rank commensurate with education and experience) who also holds an administrative appointment related to managing an area of programmatic responsibility that may include a specific group of online courses, an online program, or multiple online programs as determined by the Department Chair and College Dean.

Responsibilities include: online classroom instruction, online program operations, assisting students with their goals of successful online program completion, and monitoring online Faculty Members (both Full-time and Adjunct) who support the mission of the University. The Program Director participates in the well being of his/her area of programmatic responsibility as it relates to education and helps to maintain/grow student enrollment and promote faculty involvement.

The Program Director also participates in activities that promote the stature of the Department and the College and abides by the mandates set by Education Management Corporation, the South University Board of Trustees, University Chancellor, System Vice President for Academic Affairs, College Dean, and Department Chair.

Key Job Elements:

• Perform instructional duties as assigned as outlined in the Faculty job description and in accordance with the provisions of Faculty Supplement to the South University Employee Handbook, with a minimum teaching load of 2 courses (8 credits) and maximum teaching load of 3 courses (12 credits) per quarter.
• Mentor and monitor online Faculty Members (both Full-time and Adjunct) according to the guidelines provided by the pertinent OHE Director of Online Instruction, Department Chair, or College Dean, and in accordance with the policies and procedures of South University.
• Evaluate and perform annual reviews of online Full-time Faculty Members in conjunction with the pertinent OHE Director of Online Instruction.
• Review annual performance appraisal of online Adjunct Faculty Members in conjunction with the pertinent OHE Director of Online Instruction.
• Interview and recommend applicants for online Full-time Faculty positions within the Department or College.
• Participate in new curriculum development and course revisions for the assigned area of programmatic responsibility.
• Develop training materials related to new curriculum development and course revisions for the assigned area of programmatic responsibility.
• Lead start/end of the session activities related to pre-session presentations, faculty course assignment reviews, final grades, etc. as requested by the pertinent OHE Director for Online Instruction.
• Evaluate transfer of credit escalations as requested by the Department Chair or College Dean.
• Evaluate and credential online Faculty Members (both Full-time and Adjunct) for instructional assignments as requested by the Department Chair or College Dean.
• Coordinate and support any required clinical, preceptorship, laboratory, internship/externship, and/or residency experience required within the assigned area of programmatic responsibility in accordance with all applicable accreditation criteria and state agency regulations as requested by the Department Chair or College Dean.
• Coordinate and/or participate in the development of policy revisions as requested by the Department Chair or College Dean.
• Support Department and College programs designed to increase student persistence and faculty involvement as outlined in the strategic plan.
• Act as a liaison between the online Faculty Members and the Department Chair or College Dean.
• Collaborate with other Program Directors within the College in activities such as student persistence, faculty scheduling, securing substitute faculty, faculty development, etc.
• Other responsibilities as determined by the Department Chair, College Dean, and the pertinent OHE Director for Online Instruction.

Reports To: Department Chair or College Dean, with day-to-day management and administration of academic operations coordinated through the pertinent OHE Director for Online Instruction.

Supervises: Online Faculty Members (both Full-time and Adjunct).

Interacts With: Inside contact encompasses the entire range of personnel. Outside contacts may include community and professional leaders as well as other educators.

Position Requirements

• Ph.D. or comparable terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution in Business, Management, or an area closely related to the discipline (minimum of 18 semester hours in the discipline), with exceptional candidates in active ABD (all but dissertation) status also considered.
• Five plus years academic leadership experience in a university setting.
• Two plus years teaching experience in a university setting (online teaching experience a plus).
• Ability to read, understand, interpret, and implement accreditation criteria and state agency regulations.
• Ability to resolve inquiries and complaints from students, faculty, employees, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic or business community.
• Ability to effectively present information to students, faculty, academic leaders, corporate leaders, and public groups.
• Experience with computerized learning management and education administrative systems.
• Proficient with the use of standard business productivity and Internet applications on personal computers.
• Other requirements specific to the discipline.

Ability to Travel:

The individual must be able to travel out of the local area occasionally on an overnight basis as required to participate in a variety of conferences and meetings.
