Position Description

Position Summary:

The Director  of Online Instruction is responsible for maintaining the academic policies and standards of the accredited educational institution in accordance with the institution’s accreditation guidelines under the direction of the EDMC-OHE Director of Online Programs. The Director of Online Instruction works under the direction of the EDMC-OHE Director of Online Programs to coordinate curriculum development, online faculty development and preparation, and assure faculty fulfill their classroom and administrative responsibilities.  This individual provides program specific consultation, training, and collaboration with the functional areas of EDMC OHE as well as ensures student progress toward successful program completion through student issue resolution. The Director of Online Instruction works collaboratively with the accredited institution’s academic department leadership.

1. Develops and supervises faculty
1.1. Ensures program faculty are in compliance with EDMC OHE policies, educational institution policies, and accreditation standards, and that appropriate paperwork is completed in a timely manner
1.2. Investigates and resolves faculty problems - Resolves problems that require academic actions, exceptions, etc.
1.3. Conducts classroom observations and completes quarterly faculty evaluation snapshots
1.4. Provides feedback concerning faculty performance and arranges to have a mentor assigned as needed
1.5. Collaborates with the EDMC OHE Manager of Faculty Evaluation and the accredited institution academic leadership in ongoing evaluation activities and in preparing and participating in the annual faculty review process.
1.6. Collaborates with the OHE Director of Instruction for Faculty Development & Training, Faculty Trainers, Online Mentors, and others to identify faculty development needs and participates in the development and implementation of faculty initiatives


2. Ensure every student is involved in a positive educational experience through leadership activities.
2.1  Monitors and spot-checks active courses for quality assurance
2.2. Ensures program area faculty have set up all classes prior to the beginning of each session in the academic quarter
2.3 Investigates and resolves student problems with on ground educational institution Academic Affairs as applicable
2.4 Participates & leads student, faculty and curriculum initiatives to address student persistence issues.  Collaborates closely with OHE Academic Advisors, OHE functional areas and online faculty to identify student academic support and persistence needs and assists with program specific student support and persistence program development and implementation
2.5 Provides program and subject area product knowledge training and consultation to OHE Assistant Directors of Admissions and Academic Affairs.
2.6 Conducts life credit reviews for online students in accordance with the policies and guidelines set forth by the accredited educational institution
2.7 Supervises student internships in accordance with the policies and guidelines set forth by the accredited educational institution
2.8  Participates in career service and placement activities.

3. Collaborates in the curriculum development process for online courses.
3.1. Collaborates with the accredited institution’s Academic Department Directors/Chairs to ensure the accredited institution’s course competencies are included in every online course.
3.2. Coordinates, in collaboration with the accredited institution’s Academic Department Director/Chair and EDMC OHE curriculum development staff in all curriculum development activities
3.3 Collaborates with the EDMC OHE curriculum development process to ensure each online course is developed in a manner to effectively and efficiently deliver students a quality online experience
3.4 Communicates regularly with the accredited institution’s Academic Department Director/Chair issues related to program and course curriculum content, instructional delivery and classroom activities

Position Requirements

Position Requirements:

• Masters degree in relevant subject area. A Doctorate is preferred.
• Three to five years Online Teaching experience preferred
• Experience evaluating online courses and faculty is strongly preferred
• Strong interpersonal and technology skills are a must.
• Demonstrated leadership skill.
• This position is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
